Women's Tennis Prize Money Up for Grabs at the 2019 WTA Elite Trophy

The 2019 WTA Elite Trophy tennis tournament for women players on the WTA circuit is taking place this week from October 22-27, 2019, on the indoor hard courts at the Hengqin Tennis Centre located in Zhuhai, China. Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs for the women tennis players at the 2019 WTA Elite Trophy.

The WTA Elite Trophy is the year-end championship for the 12 top ranked women tennis players who did not make the WTA Finals. Only the 12 women ranked from #9 thru #20 from the 2019 season are eligible to play in the WTA Elite Trophy and those 12 women get to play for $2.42 million in prize money.

The first half of the WTA Elite Trophy is played in round-robin format with the 12 women split into four groups of three women each. The four round-robin winners advance to play in the semifinals and then the two winners meet for the championship.

Total prize money up for grabs at the 2019 WTA Elite Trophy is $2.42 million. A lot of money considering how few women are competing for the money. Not all the prize money is set beforehand as players earn additional money of $155,000 for winning their pool and each player gets a $45,000 participation fee.

The eight women competing in the 2019 WTA Elite Trophy are Kiki Bertens, Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Martic, Elise Mertens, Alison Riske and Donna Vekic. Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber and Johanna Konta were eligible to play but withdrew.
