  • $3.5 million

Dustin Johnson is getting a guaranteed $3.5 million appearance fee to play in the 2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. The same amount of money he got for appearing here last year. It's pretty easy to see why he's playing in Abu Dhabi this week. If he wins the event he'll get another $1.17 million for $4.67 million total.

If he played at the PGA Tour event this week he'd have to win to get a million dollars. What golfer isn't going to choose a guaranteed payday of $3.5 million over the possibility of winning $1 million in any given week?

The $3.5 million appearance fee is huge. That's what Tiger Woods used to get to play in places like Abu Dhabi when he was the #1 ranked player in the world.

In addition to Dustin Johnson, top ranked players also playing in Abu Dhabi this week are Brooks Koepka, the #2 ranked player in the world, along with Justin Rose (ranked #1), Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar and Tommy Fleetwood. No doubt most of those players are also getting appearance fees this week but just how much is anybody's guess.
