LPGA's Lexi Thompson Taking On the Boys Again in PGA's 2018 QBE Shootout

Fresh off her win in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship tournament on the LPGA Tour which netted her a $500,000 first place payday, Lexi Thompson is again taking on the PGA golfers in the 2018 QBE Shootout. The QBE Shootout is taking place this week from December 7-9, 2018, at the Tiburon Golf Club located in Naples, Florida.

The QBE Shootout features 12 teams of two players each competing over three days using scramble play in the opening round, followed by modified alternate shot on day two and better ball play on day three.

Lexi Thompson played in the 2016 and 2017 QBE Shootouts teaming up with Bryson DeChambeau in 2016 and Tony Finau in 2017. Her team finished 12th and last in 2016 but last year Lexi Thomspon and Tony Finau tied for 4th place. Lexi will again be playing with Tony Finau in the 2018 QBE Shootout.

This will be the fourth time since this event began in 1989 that a women will be competing against the boys. In addition to Lexi Thompson's three appearances, Annika Sorenstam played in this event in 2006, teaming up with Fred Couples.

The prize money for this event is $3.4 million. For Lexi Thompson that is big money. Only 3 LPGA Tournaments had bigger prize money payouts in 2018, and each of those events had a lot more than 24 total players. The winners of the QBE Shootout will each earn $422,000, while even the last place team will get at least $79,000.

Does Lexi Thompson have any realistic chance of winning the 2018 QBE Shootout? Well, she is only 23 years old and she's already got 10 wins on the LPGA Tour and Lexi is the longest hitter in women's golf on the LPGA Tour. She has driven the ball at least 359 yards in a LPGA tournament, plus the team did tied for 4th place last year. She has a realistic chance of winning this event on the PGA Tour.

In any case, having Lexi Thompson taking on the boys makes the 2018 QBE Shootout a very watchable event this year on the PGA Tour. This event should add more women LPGA golfers to make it even more watchable.

Did you know that a woman LPGA player has actually won two events on the PGA Tour? It's true and you can read all about it at What Woman LPGA Golfer Has Won Twice on the PGA Tour?  The woman is Not Lexi Thompson and she is actually two years younger than Lexi Thompson.
