The Australian Open dates back to 1904. Many of golf's greatest players have won the Australian Open. Gene Sarazen won in 1936, while Gary Player won 7 times, Jack Nicklaus won the event 6 times, Greg Norman won 5 times, Rory McIlroy was the 2013 winner and defending champion Jordan Spieth has won twice so far.

Jordan Spieth is defending his title and playing in the 2017 Australian Open as is Jason Day, No doubt, Jordan Spieth is receiving a very hefty appearance fee that is likely more than the total prize amount for the entire 2017 Australian Open.

Total prize money up for grabs at the 2017 Australian Open is $1 million. All prize money in this article has been converted from Australian dollars to American dollars at the current exchange rate.
