ATP Tennis Prize Money Up for Grabs at the 2017 ATP Finals

The 2017 ATP Finals tennis tournament for men players on the ATP circuit is taking place this week from November 12-19, 2017, on the indoor hard courts at the Q2 Arena located in London, England. Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs for the men tennis players at the 2017 ATP Finals.

The ATP Finals is limited to the top 8 healthy players in the world. The 8 players are split into two groups of four and each group plays a round robin format of three matches each. The four top players from the round robin format advance to the semis and then the two winners play for the title.

Total prize money up for grabs at the 2017 ATP Finals is $8 million. There is set prize money for the winner and runner-up as listed below plus the players earn bonus money for round robin wins and each player gets a $191,000 participation fee just for showing up and playing.

The eight highest ranked men playing in the 2017 ATP Finals are Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin and American Jack Sock.

First, here's the payouts for each spot from winner to runner-up plus the bonus money for participating and for each round-robin win. There's no extra money payouts for the six players who do not reach the finals match. They just earn the participation fee and bonus money for each round-robin win as listed below.

  • Winner - $1.785 (see below for final payouts)

The winner gets $1.785 million for the win plus bonus money as listed below where I give the range the winner can win.

  • Runner-up - $585,000

The runner-up gets $585,000 for making the finals match plus bonus money as listed below where I give the range the runner-up can win.

  • Participation Fee - $191,000

All eight players who play a match get the $191,000 participation fee including the winner and the runner-up player.

  • Round Robin Win - $191,000

Each player gets a $191,000 win bonus for each round-robin match he wins. Each player plays in three round-robin matches. If he wins one he gets $191,000, if he wins two he gets $382,000 and if he wins all three matches he gets $573,000.

Range of Prize Money for Each Player at 2017 ATP Finals

  • Winner Will Earn - $2.167 million or $2.385 million or $2.549 million

The winner of the 2017 ATP Finals will earn $2.167 million or $2.385 million or $2.549 million depending upon how many round-robin matches he wins. The winner is guaranteed to earn at least $2.167 million.  The winner gets $1.785 for win plus the $191,000 participation fee plus at least $191,000 for a round-robin win.

It is possible but unlikely that the winner will win just one round robin match. If the winner wins two round robin matches he will earn $2.385 million and if he wins all three round robin matches he will earn $2.549 million.

  • Runner-Up Will Earn - $967,000 or $1.158 million or $1.349 million

The runner-up at the 2017 ATP Finals will earn $967,000 or $1.158 million or $1.349 million. The runner-up earns $585,000 for being 2nd plus the $191,000 participation fee plus at least $191,000 for one round robin win. So he will earn at least $967,000. If he wins two round robin matches he will earn $1.158 million and if he wins three round robin matches he will earn $1.349 million.

  • Remaining Players Will Earn - $191,000 or $382,000 or $573,000 or $764,000

The remaining six players will all each earn the $191,000 participation fee plus another $191,000 for each round robin match they win. So each player will earn anywhere from $191,000 to a max of $764,000 depending upon how many round robin matches they win.

It's quite possible for a player to win all three round robin matches and then lose in the semifinals. Such a player would earn $764,000.
