Golfers Who Won the Most Money on the PGA Tour in 2017

The 2017 PGA Tour season, which began in October of 2016, ended on September 24, 2017.  Here is a list of the golfers who won the most money on the PGA Tour for the 2017 season.



The list includes all money the golfers earned this year on the PGA Tour including official, unofficial and FedEx Cup Playoff money. For each player listed I've broken down the money won by official events, unofficial events and the FedEx Cup Playoffs. 

As you can see from the list below, PGA Tour golfers make just about as much money as pro athletes in any sport at the top end. For the record, 102 PGA Tour golfers earned over $1 million during the 2017 season.


Golfers Who Won the Most Money on the PGA Tour in 2017


1. Justin Thomas - $20.01 million

With a total of $20.01 million, Justin Thomas won the most money of any golfer on the PGA Tour for the 2017 season. Thomas won $9,921,560 playing in official money events this year. He also won another $91,666 finishing tied for 5th place in the QBE Shootout unofficial money event on the PGA Tour.

Justin Thomas also won the FedEx Cup in 2017 which is worth $10 million. Add all that up and Justin Thomas won $20.01 million playing on the PGA Tour in 2017.

In the 2017 season, Justin Thomas won the CIMB Classic ($1.26 million), Tournament of Champions ($1.22 million), Sony Open in Hawaii ($1.08 million), PGA Championship ($1.89 million) and Dell Technologies Championship ($1.575 million).  Those five wins accounted for $7.025 million of Justin Thomas' winnings this year.

2. Jordan Spieth - $12.57 million 

Jordan Spieth won the second most money on the PGA Tour in 2017 with $12.57 million. Spieth won $9.433 million in official money events plus $140,000 playing in the Hero World Challenge unofficial money PGA Tour event. He also won $3 million in the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs giving him $12.57 million in earnings for 2017.

Jordan Spieth also won the Australian Open over the last year which was worth around $170,000 more but that event is not affiliated with the PGA Tour.

3. Dustin Johnson - $10.42 million

Dustin Johnson won $8.732 million in official money events plus $191,677 in the Hero World Challenge and he won another $1.5 million for finishing 4th in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. That gives DJ a total of $10.42 million money won on the PGA Tour in 2017.

4. Hideki Matsuyama - $10.13 million

Hideki Matsuyama from Japan won $10.13 million on the PGA Tour in 2017. Matusyama won $8.38 million in official money events plus he won the Hero World Challenge for another $1 million and won $148,750 for a 6th place tie in the World Cup of Golf unofficial money event plus $600,000 for finishing 8th in the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs.

5. Rickie Fowler - $7.42 million

Rickie Fowler won the 5th most money on the PGA Tour in 2017 with earnings of $7.42 million. Fowler won $6.08 million in official events plus $440,167 in the World Cup of Golf and another $191,677 in the Hero World Challenge plus $700,000 for finishing in 7th place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
