PGA Golf Prize Money Up for Grabs at the 2017 British Open

The 2017 British Open golf major tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from July 20-23, 2017, at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club located in Southport, England Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs this week for the PGA golfers at the 2017 British Open.

The British Open dates back to 1860. Harry Vardon holds the record for most wins with six. Tom Watson, James Braid, John Henry Taylor and Peter Thomson are all tied for the the second most wins with five each. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have each won the British Open three times.

Total prize money up for grabs at the 2017 British Open is $10.25 million. Due to the wide currency fluctuations of the British Pound Sterling the prize money is officially denominated in American dollars in 2017.

The British Open is the third major in golf played in 2017. At the Masters, Sergio Garcia earned $1.98 million for his win and at the U.S. Open Brooks Koepka earned a golf record $2.16 million for his win.

  • Winner - $1.845 million

The winner of the 2017 British Open will earn $1.845 million. That's up 20.6% over the $1.53 million that Henrik Stenson earned when he won the British Open last year.

  • Third place - $684,000


  • Fourth place - $532,000


  • Fifth place - $428,000


  • Sixth place - $371,000


  • Seventh place - $318,000


  • Eighth place - $268,000


  • Ninth place - $235,000
