The Ladies Open Biel Bienne is a brand new WTA International tennis tournament meaning it has a total prize fund of at least $250,000. The actual prize money up for grabs for the women players is $250,000. That is well short of the Grand Slam events which are the richest tennis tournaments in the world.

The highest ranked women players in the tournament are Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic, Carla Suarez Navarro from Spain, Timea Babos from Hungary, Roberta Vinci from Italy and Julia Goerges from Germany.
