PGA Golf Playing Field for the 2017 Valspar Championship

The 2017 Valspar Championship golf tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from March 9-12, 2017, on the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club located in the Tampa suburb of Palm Harbor, Florida. Here is a list of the playing field of top PGA golfers playing in the 2017 Valspar Championship.

Tiger Woods was seriously considering playing in the 2017 Valspar Championship but he never committed to the playing field. It's uncertain when or even if Tiger Woods will come back and play on the PGA Tour again this year as he battles back spasms. You know he'd like to play in the 2017 Masters and the only tournaments he could play in before that major are the Arnold Palmer and the Shell Houston Open. Jordan Spieth won the Valspar Championship in 2015 but he's not playing this week either.

Top ranked players in the 2017 Valspar Championship playing field include:

  • Henrik Stenson

  • Justin Thomas

  • Patrick Reed

  • Bubba Watson

  • Russell Knox

  • Matt Kuchar

  • Charl Schwartzel (2016 winner of this event)

  • Gary Woodland (2011 winner)

  • Ryan Moore

  • Daniel Berger

  • Scott Piercy

  • Bill Haas

  • Kevin Na

  • Byeong Hun An

  • Jim Furyk (2010 winner)

All those players are ranked in the top 50 in the world.

Also playing are golf major winners not included above like Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Ernie Els, Lucas Glover, Retief Goosen (2003, 2009 winner), Graeme McDowell, Geoff Ogilvy, Webb Simpson and Vijay Singh. Previous winners of the Valspar Championship in the playing field not included above include John Senden (2014), Kevin Streelman (2013), Luke Donald (2012), Sean O'Hair (2008) K.J. Choi (2002, 2006) and Carl Pettersson (2005).

There's also a good mix of well known players with many golf wins like Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan, Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk, Soren Kjeldsen and Steve Stricker in the playing field along with promising young players like Bryson DeChambeau, Ollie Schniederjans and Patrick Rodgers.

Overall the playing field for the 2017 Valspar Championship is solid but not spectacular. Fifteen of the top 50 golfers in the world are playing this week which is enough name power to keep most PGA golf fans interested and watching on the Golf Channel and NBC.
