College Basketball Scorecard 2017 NCAA Tournament thru Sweet 16 Conference Records

The Sweet 16 for the 2017 NCAA Tournament is set and it's pretty clear that the ACC was wildly overrated this season while the Pac-12, Big 12, SEC and the Big Ten were wildly underrated. Here's a list of how well each major conference has done so far in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

Before the 2017 NCAA Tournament began some pundits were saying the ACC was the best college basketball conference of all time this season. That is a laughable statement now.

College Basketball Scorecard 2017 NCAA Tournament thru Sweet 16

  • Pac-12 - 8-1

The Pac-12 only got four teams in the 2017 NCAA Tournament but those four teams went 8-1 with three of the teams (UCLA, Arizona and Oregon) advancing to the Sweet 16. All four Pac-12 teams won two games so far with USC winning a play-in game and 1sr round game before losing in the 2nd round.

  • SEC- 7-2

The SEC got five teams in the Big Dance this year and three of those teams (Florida, South Carolina and Kentucky) are in the Sweet 16. Overall, the SEC has gone 7-2 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

  • Big Ten - 8-4

Despite the fact that the conference did not have a team seeded higher than a #4, the seven Big Ten teams have gone 8-4 so far in the 2017 NCAA Tournament with three of the teams advancing to the Sweet 16 (Wisconsin, Michigan and Purdue). Big Ten teams have taken down a #1 in Villanova (beaten by #8 seed Wisconsin) and a #2 in Louisville (beaten by #7 seed Michigan).

How in the world was Minnesota given a #5 seed which is higher than Wisconsin or Michigan? Wisconsin beat Minnesota twice this season and Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament this year beating Minnesota in the semifinals. Anybody who watched the Big Ten in 2017 knew both Wisconsin and Michigan were better teams than Minnesota.

  • Big 12 - 7-3

Baylor, West Virginia and Kansas have all advanced to the Sweet 16 for the Big 12 conference which is 7-3 overall so far in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

  • ACC - 7-8

The ACC did good in the first round going 6-2 (Wake Forest lost in a play-in game) but the second round was a disaster as only North Carolina advanced to the Sweet 16. That dropped the ACC to just 7-8 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. So much for the ACC being the best college basketball conference in 2017. It's clear the ACC was wildly overrated this season.
