PGA Golf Playing Field for the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge

The 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge golf tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from January 19-22, 2017, at the PGA West Stadium Course located in La Quinta, California. Here is a list of the playing field of PGA golfers playing at the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge.

The CareerBuilder Challenge is the third PGA Tournament in the calendar year of 2017 but it is not the third tournament of the 2017 PGA season which began last October. Arnold Palmer (1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1973) holds the record for most wins with five. Phil Mickelson (2002, 2004) is one of six players tied for 2nd most wins with two each. Patrick Reed won this event in 2014.

The highest ranked player in the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge playing field is Patrick Reed followed by Phil Mickelson. Other top ranked players in the playing field for the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge include Emiliano Grillo, Francesco Molinari, Scott Piercy, Zach Johnson, William McGirt, Bill Haas, Kevin Na and Soren Kjeldsen. Among those, Bill Haas has, like Phil Mickelson, won this event twice (2010. 2015).

Also playing are golf major winners not included above like Keegan Bradley, Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Lucas Glover, Geoff Ogilvy and Webb Simpson. Jason Dufner won the CareerBuilder Challanger last year.

Previous winners of the CareerBuilder Challenge in the playing field not included above include Brian Gay (2013), Mark Wilson (2012), Jhonattan Vegas (2011), D.J. Trahan (2008), Charley Hoffman (2007) and Chad Campbell (2006).

All in all the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge playing field is not particularly strong. This is a good week for Phil Mickelson to get his first PGA Tour win since he won the 2013 British Open. A lot of that will depend upon whether Phil Mickelson is ready to play this week and how well Patrick Reed plays as he's the only real legitimate threat to Phil Mickelson.

Can Phil Mickelson win for the first time since 2013 at the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge? It's the main reason for PGA golf fans to tune in this week.
