PGA Golf Playing Field for the 2016 World Cup of Golf

The 2016 World Cup of Golf golf tournament is taking place this week from November 24-27, 2016, at the Kingston Heath Golf Club located in Melbourne, Australia. Here is the a list of the top golfers in the playing field for the 2016 World Cup of Golf.

The World Cup of Golf is a team competition featuring two-man teams from 28 different countries competing in 72-hole stroke play with the first and third days being four-ball play and the second and fourth days being alternate shot. The playing field for the 2016 World Cup of Golf is strong but could have been much stronger.

For example: Jason Day is the #1 ranked player in the world but is skipping this event. Americans Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson were also eligible but all three declined to play. Henrik Stenson, Danny Willett, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose are four more top ranked players skipping this event in 2016.

Top ranked players in the playing field include Rickie Fowler and Jimmie Walker from the United States, Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Ishikawa from Japan, Adam Scott and Marc Leishman from Australia, Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan from England, Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell from Ireland, Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen from Denmark, Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand and Alex Noren and David Lingmerth from Sweden. Both members from all eight of those teams are ranked in the top 100.

Top ranked players in the field who are playing with partners not ranked in the top 100 include Russell Knox from Scotland, Rafa Cabrera-Bello from Spain, Byeong Hun An from South Korea Danny Lee from New Zealand, Bernd Wiesberger from Austria, Francesco Molinari from Italy, Joost Luiten from the Netherlands, Jhonatten Vegas from Venezuela, Victor Dubuisson from France and Jaco Van Zyl from South Africa.

All in all a pretty good field which should make for a very interesting and fun tournament. The top ranked players in the field are in order, Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, Alex Noren, Rickie Fowler, Russell Knox and Jimmy Walker. All six of those players are in the top 20 and the only team with two top 20 players is the Americans with Fowler and Walker.
