LPGA Woman Golfer Lexi Thompson Taking On the Boys in PGA's 2016 Franklin Templeton Shootout

The 2016 Franklin Templeton Shootout golf tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from December 8-10, 2016, at the Tiburon Golf Club located in Naples, Florida. The Franklin Templeton Shootout has a big twist this year as female LPGA golf star Lexi Thompson is among the 24 players who will compete.

The Franklin Templeton Shootout features 12 teams of two players each competing over three days using scramble play in the opening round, followed by modified alternate shot on day two and better ball play on day three. Lexi Thompson will be teamed with PGA rookie Bryson DeChambeau for the event.

That is a very interesting combination as both Lexi Thompson and Bryson DeChambeau are sponsored by Cobra Puma. Lexi Thompson has 7 LPGA wins including one major, plus wins on the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA of Japan Tour. Bryson DeChambeau won for the first time as a pro at the DAP Championship on the Web.com Tour in September to help secure his PGA Tour card for the 2017 season.

Despite the fact that Lexi Thompson has won so many more tournaments and has been playing professional golf for so much longer than Bryson DeChambeau, she is still two years younger than he is (21 vs 23 years old). Lexi will not be the first woman to play in the Franklin Templeton Shootout, as Annika Sorenstam played in the event in 2006 with Fred Couples as partner.

How will Lexi Thompson do in the 2016 Franklin Templeton Shootout? She is considered the longest driver on the LPGA Tour and she ripped a 359 yard drive in a LPGA Tournament back in April of this year. Lexi also won the 2011 TPC February Shootout on the LPGA minor league circuit so she's also familiar with and had success with the format she'll be dealing with this week.

Can Lexi Thompson and Bryson DeChambeau win this week in the 2016 Franklin Templeton Shootout? Probably not but her being in the tournament certainly makes the event much more watchable this week.
