The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open dates back to 1983. Jim Furyk holds the record for most wins with three (1995, 1998, 1999). Tiger Woods won this event in 1996. Tiger Woods has announced he will return to competitive golf at his own Hero World Challenge event in early December in the Bahamas. It will be interesting to see how Tiger Woods does if he actually plays in the event which he hosts.

Top ranked golfers in the 2016 Shriners Hospitals for Children Oepn field are Brooks Koepka, Jimmy Walker, J.B. Holmes, Scott Piercy, Ryan Moore, Kevin Na, Francesco Molinari and William McGirt. Those players are all ranked in the top 50 in the world.

Golf major winners in the field not included above are Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Ernie Els, Davis Love III, Lucas Glover, Graeme McDowell, Geoff Ogivly, Webb Simpson and Vijay Singh. The playing field is not overly strong this week so it's a good opportunity for a young player to pick up a win.

Young players to watch this week in the 2016 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open playing field include last year's winner Smylie Kaufman along with Bryson DeChambeau, Ryo Ishikawa from Japan, Michael Kim from South Korea, Lee McCoy, Trey Mullinax, Patrick Rodgers, Ollie Schniederjans and Richie Werenski. It would not be too surprising to see one of those young players win this week.
