NBA Head Coaches With the Most NBA Championships

The following is a list of the head coaches who have won the most NBA Championships.

1. Phil Jackson - 11 NBA Championships
Phil Jackson has won 11 NBA Championships as a head coach. He won six titles with the Chicago Bulls and five more with the Los Angeles Lakers. Phil Jackson also won two more championships as a player with the New York Knicks.
Of course coaches don't play the game and Phil Jackson has always coached teams loaded with an incredible amount of talent. In Chicago, Jackson had Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. With the Lakers he had Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and Pau Gasol. Plus he always had tons of great secondary talent too. But Jackson has done exactly what he should have done with such talent and that is win NBA Championships.
2. Red Auerbach - 9 titles
Red Auerbach coached the Boston Celtics for 16 years and won nine NBA Championships. After he retired as coach he led the Celtics to seven more titles as GM and President of the team. Of course Auerbach had great talent too including Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, K.C. Jones, John Havlicek, Sam Jones, Tom Heinsohn, Frank Ramsey, Ed Macauley and Bill Sharman who are all in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
T-3. Gregg Popovich - 5 titles
Gregg Popovich is currently in his 19 season as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Popovich has won five titles (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014) so far in 18 years of chances. As a coach Popovich hit the lottery when the Spurs took Tim Duncan with the 1st pick of the 1997 NBA Draft. Greg Popovich has also coached such great players as David Robinson, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
T-3. Pat Riley - 5 titles
Pat Riley won five NBA Championships in 24 years as a NBA head coach. Riley won four championships with the Los Angeles Lakers (1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988) and one with the Miami Heat (2006). Riley is another coach who almost always had great talent. With the Lakers he had Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy. With the Heat he had Dwyane Wade and Shaq.
T-3. John Kundla - 5 titles
John Kundla coached the Minneapolis Lakers to five championships - four in the NBA and one in the BAA the predecessor of the NBA. Kundla also had great talent to work with including hall of fame players George Mikan, Jim Pollard and Vern Mikkelsen.
