2016 U.S. Open Tennis Prize Money Up for Grabs for Players

The 2016 U.S. Open Grand Slam tennis tournament for men and women players is taking place from August 29 to September 11, 2016, on the hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center located in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York. Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs for the men and women singles tennis players at the 2016 U.S. Open.

The prize money at the 2016 U.S. Open is the highest of the four Grand Slam tennis events in 2016 and the highest in all of tennis. The men and women singles players are paid the same amounts of prize money at the 2016 U.S. Open.

In addition to the prize money for each round also listed below is how much the prize money has been increased for each round in 2016 vs what it was last year. The money below is not cumulative. Players only earn the amounts shown for the last round they advance to.

  • Winners - $3.5 million

The men and women's winners of the 2016 U.S. Open will earn very cool paychecks of $3.5 million. That is up 6.1% over the $3.3 million that Novak Djokovic and Flavia Pennetta earned when they won the U.S. Open last year.

  • Runners-up - $1.75 million

The runners-up at the 2016 U.S. Open will earn $1.75 each. That is up 9.4% over the $1.6 million that Roger Federer and Roberta Vinci earned as the runners-up in this tournament last year in singles play.

  • Semifinals - $875,000

Reaching the semis in the 2016 U.S. Open is worth $875,000 for the men and women singles players. That is up 8.7% over the $805,000 that Marin Cilic and Stan Wawrinka for the men and Serena Williams and Simona Halep for the women earned when they reached the semis last year.

  • Quarterfinals - $450,000

Reaching the quarterfinals is worth $450,000 for the men and women singles players at the 2016 U.S. Open. That is up 9.5% over the $410,975 that the men and women singles players earned by making the quarterfinals last year.


  • Fourth round - $235,000

Reaching the quarters at the 2016 U.S. Open in singles play is worth $236,000 for the men and women players. That's up 10% over the $213,575 players earned by making the 4th round last year.

  • Third round - $140,000

Up 16.5% over the $120,200 last year. 


  • Second Round - $77,188

Up 12.5% from the $68,600 last year.

  • First Round - $43,313

Up 9.7% over $39,500 last year.

  1. It was expected for Serena Williams to win yesterday's game played in the US Opem 2016. Ranked as #1 in WTA, Serena applied successfully her strengths and scored a well deserved victory against Simona Halep. I am sorry to see S. Halep kicked out of the tournament. She could have performed better; hopefully she will readjust the game strategy for the next tournament.
