LPGA golf prize money up for grabs at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open

The 2016 U.S. Women's golf major tournament for women players on the LPGA Tour is taking place this week from July 7-10, 2016, at the CordeValle Golf Club located in San Martin, California in the Santa Clara Valley. Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open.

The U.S. Women's Open dates back to 1946 and it is the oldest golf major for women players. Betsy Rawls (1951, 1953, 1957, 1960) and Mickey Wright (1958, 1959, 1961, 1964) jointly hold the record for most wins with four each. Popular American players like Cristie Kerr (2007), Paula Creamer (2010) and Michelle Wie (2014) have been recent winners.

Total prize money up for grabs at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open is $4.5 million. The same amount of prize money as last year and the largest prize money purse up for grabs for the women players on the LPGA Tour in 2016.

  • Winner - $810,000

The winner of the 2016 U.S. Women's Open will earn or win a paycheck of $486,000. That is the same amount of money that In Gee Chun earned when she won this women's golf major last year.

  • Second place - $486,000

Second place is worth $486,000 at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open. That is the same amount of prize money earned or won by Amy Yang when she finished in second place in this golf major last year.

  • Third place - $306,000

Third place at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open is worth $306,000. Inbee Park and Stacy Lewis split $534,144 with each player earning $267,072 when they tied for third place here last year.

  • Fourth place - $216,000

Fourth place is worth $216,000 at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open. That's how much a woman player will earn if she finishes alone in 4th place at the this women's golf major in 2016.

  • Fifth place - $180,000

Fifth place at the 2016 U.S. Women's Open is worth $180,000.
